When Can You Wear a Hat After Hair Transplant?
Patients should be safe to wear hats again three to four days following their hair transplant surgery. You just have to ensure the hat does not touch any graft areas, including the hairline, the crown, or even the vortex in the back.
Ensure the hat doesn’t rub against the graft area, accidentally dislodging the follicles we put it in.
What Are The Risks of Wearing A Hat After Hair Transplant?
Wearing a hat immediately following a hair transplant can pose some risks to the patient, potentially jeopardizing their final results.
For example, the risks of wearing a hat that is too tight could include damage to the hair follicles that were transplanted. You certainly don’t want to do that.
If the hat, for example, happened to get dirty, that could contaminate the area of the graft, and you could experience an infection, which would cause more hair follicle loss.
In terms of wearing a hat, it’s important to protect the transplant area—where the hair follicles are placed. The donor site, although it’s important, is of secondary importance. We want to preserve the transplanted hair and avoid pressure and infection in the areas that have been treated.
Safe Types of Hats You Can Wear After Hair Transplant
Hats like baseball hats, bucket hats, or even fishing hats that have good air circulation, are safe and okay to wear three or four days after the transplant. Ensure the hat you are wearing is soft, not structured, to minimize the risk of damage to the newly transplanted hair.
The only hats we do not recommend wearing post-op are those with thick, hard head material that could impact your results and dislodge hair follicles. Hats and helmets like motorcycle helmets, construction hard hats, and bicycle helmets should be avoided until the transplanted area is fully healed.
When Can You Wear a Helmet or Hard Hat After Hair Transplant?
Most patients need to wait two weeks until the graphs are settled in. After that, it is okay to wear hard hats and helmets. However, the longer you can go without wearing a hard hat or helmet following your procedure, the better.
